FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Almost any business phone system manufactured since 1980 can accommodate messages on-hold although some require that you purchase an adaptor. Your best bet is to contact the company that sold you the system or the vendor who presently services it.

Yes, there are digital on-hold message players with MOH ( music on hold ) capability built in that allow small or home-based businesses with 1-4 single phone lines to put customers on hold and play back messages. Contact us at 1-800-947-8649 for more information about unit specifications and pricing, or check out our Equipment page.

Technically, you can play music recordings or a radio station over your phone, however, if you don't have an ASCAP or BMI music license your business could be fined for playing copyrighted music. Moreover, aside from the possible legal issues, music CDs do nothing whatsoever to promote your business, and with a local radio station you always run the risk of your callers hearing commercials for other businesses over your phone...possibly even a commercial for one of your competitors!

If you have more than one location, you can either order a customized on-hold message production for each location (multiple discounts available), or we can create your on-hold messages so that duplicate copies can be used at your other locations.

Turn around time to produce and deliver your customized on-hold messages is approximately one week after you place your order. We pride ourselves in being able to deliver the same fast results for you that our on-hold messages will.

The equipment you will need to play messages over your phone will depend on which format you choose to have your messages recorded in, i.e., CD, Tape or MP3 file.

1. CDs - provide excellent sound quality, are virtually indestructible and can be used with most inexpensive stand-alone CD players. Please note: a Discman-type player costing basically the same as a boom box will also work, however, most Discmans do not have enough volume for the majority of phone systems, and therefore should only be used in situations where space is a major factor.

2. Digital Player (Recommended) - is a state-of-the-art piece of equipment built specifically for playing on-hold messages. Digital Players transfer productions from a CD, Tape or MP3 file onto a recording chip which plays the messages electronically providing a worry-free operation. The MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) for a Digital Player typically ranges from $299. - $499., but even at those prices the amount of recording time can be as little as 3 minutes, which could result in less information and more repetition.

At On-Hold Productions, the *Digital Players we provide all have a minimum of 90 minutes of recording time and start at just $169 (shipping included).  Please note: None of the Digital Players that we offer are "proprietary" machines. "Proprietary" machines, simply put, are players that can only play recordings made by the company that sold you the equipment. At On-Hold Productions, we do not sell "proprietary" machines because we would rather that our clients kept coming back to us for no other reason than that our messages are making them money.
